Chair Yoga in Sheridan and Online: Accessible Movement for Every Body

Yoga should not feel intimidating. It should not feel like something only flexible, athletic, or experienced people can do. At PHiiTWERx, our new Chair Yoga in Sheridan class was created with a simple belief: yoga can be for every body when it is taught in a way that meets people where they are.

To say yoga is for everyone often assumes that everyone can sit to stand easily, get down to the floor, and get back up on their own. But that is not everyone’s reality. Some people are working through stiffness, balance concerns, limited mobility, injury recovery, joint discomfort, low confidence, or simply a lack of experience.

That is why Chair Yoga IS for everyone.

Chair Yoga allows us to participate in yoga without needing to move to the floor. It gives each person the ability to regress or progress as needed. It removes the stigma from yoga and brings the practice back to what it truly is: connecting breath to movement.

In this class, we use the chair as support, not as a limitation. With guided instruction, Chair Yoga can help you mobilize, stabilize, strengthen, and lengthen your body. That makes it a powerful form of functional movement for daily life.

This new class is held in person at our Sheridan location and is also accessible online. We also use Myzone to help participants track their own progress and stay connected with teammates virtually.

To view the current class schedule, visit our PHiiTWERx Classes page. If you are ready to register or have questions, you can contact PHiiTWERx here.

What Is Chair Yoga?

Chair Yoga is a guided movement class that uses a chair to support yoga-based movements, breathing, stretching, balance, and strength work. Some movements are done seated. Others may be done standing while using the chair for support.

The chair gives participants options. It can make movement feel safer, more accessible, and more stable. It can also help you focus on your form, breath, posture, and control without worrying about getting on and off the floor.

This does not mean Chair Yoga is “easy” or only for beginners. It means the class is adaptable.

In Chair Yoga, we can adjust the movement to match each person’s ability. Some participants may stay seated for most of the class. Others may use the chair for standing balance work. Some may progress into deeper ranges of motion, longer holds, or more controlled strength-based movements.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is connection, movement, and progress.

Why Chair Yoga in Sheridan Matters

Access matters. Many people want to move more, but they need a class that feels approachable. They may not feel ready for a high-intensity class. They may not want to walk into a traditional yoga class and feel like they cannot keep up. They may need support, guidance, and a realistic starting point.

Our Chair Yoga in Sheridan class gives local members a welcoming way to begin or continue their wellness journey.

Because this class is also available online, participants outside the Sheridan location can still join. That means members in Amity or those joining from home can participate virtually and stay connected.

You can always check the latest class options on our PHiiTWERx Classes page. If you would like help choosing the right class, please contact us and we can help guide you.

Chair Yoga Is Breath Connected to Movement

One of the most important things I want people to understand is that yoga is not about forcing your body into a shape. Yoga is the process of connecting breath to movement.

When we breathe with intention, movement changes. We slow down. We pay attention. We notice how the body feels. We begin to move with more control and less tension.

In Chair Yoga, breath becomes the guide.

We may inhale as we lengthen the spine. We may exhale as we rotate, fold, or soften tension. We may use breath to help support posture, balance, and calm.

This connection can be especially helpful for people who feel disconnected from their bodies or unsure about exercise. Chair Yoga creates space to move slowly, listen to your body, and build confidence over time.

Benefits of Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga can support many different fitness and wellness goals. It is gentle enough to be accessible, but still purposeful enough to help the body improve.

Chair Yoga Helps Improve Mobility

Mobility is your ability to move your joints through a healthy range of motion with control. When your hips, shoulders, spine, ankles, or neck feel stiff, daily movement can become harder.

Chair Yoga uses gentle, intentional movement to help the body open up. We may work through seated spinal rotations, shoulder circles, ankle mobility, hip movement, and supported forward folds.

These movements can help reduce stiffness and support better daily function. Over time, you may notice that reaching, bending, standing, walking, and turning feel more comfortable.

Chair Yoga Supports Stability and Balance

Balance is important at every age. It helps you walk, stand, climb stairs, change direction, and feel confident in your body.

In Chair Yoga, the chair gives you a stable support system while you practice balance. For example, we may use the chair during standing poses, weight shifts, heel raises, or supported single-leg work.

This allows you to safely challenge your balance without feeling unsupported. As your confidence grows, movements can be progressed.

Chair Yoga Builds Functional Strength

Chair Yoga is not only stretching. It can also help build functional strength.

Functional strength means strength you use in daily life. Sitting down, standing up, lifting, carrying, reaching, and maintaining posture all require strength and control.

In class, we may practice chair-supported squats, seated leg lifts, controlled arm movements, core engagement, and posture-based holds. These movements may look simple, but when done with intention, they help activate important muscle groups.

Chair Yoga Can Help Lengthen the Body

Many people carry tension in the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and legs. Chair Yoga gives us a way to gently lengthen the body without forcing movement.

Through breath-led stretching and controlled positioning, participants can work on improving flexibility and reducing tightness. The goal is not to push into discomfort. The goal is to create more space and ease in the body.

Chair Yoga Encourages Calm and Focus

Movement is physical, but it is also mental. When you slow down and connect breath to movement, you create a moment to focus.

Chair Yoga can help you step away from stress and reconnect with yourself. It gives your mind something simple and grounding to follow: breathe, move, notice, repeat.

This can be a powerful part of a weekly wellness routine.

Who Should Try Chair Yoga?

Chair Yoga is a great fit for many people because it can be adjusted to different needs.

You may enjoy Chair Yoga if you:

  • Are new to yoga or fitness
  • Feel nervous about getting started
  • Have stiffness or limited mobility
  • Want to improve balance
  • Prefer not to get on the floor
  • Are returning to movement after time away
  • Want a lower-impact class
  • Need a supportive way to build strength
  • Want to stay active from home
  • Enjoy guided classes with a community feel

This class is not about comparing yourself to others. It is about learning how your body moves and giving yourself a safe, supportive space to improve.

Chair Yoga With Myzone: Track Progress Virtually

One of the unique parts of this class is the ability to use Myzone to track your progress and stay connected with others.

Myzone helps you see your effort during movement. That can be motivating, especially when you are participating online. Even if you are not physically in the same room, you can still feel connected to your teammates and your class experience.

This is helpful because progress does not always look the same for everyone. For one person, progress may mean better balance. For another, it may mean improved consistency. For someone else, it may mean feeling more confident moving their body again.

Myzone gives you another way to stay engaged and aware of your effort.

When you join Chair Yoga online, you are not just watching a video. You are participating in a guided class, tracking your effort, and staying connected to a supportive fitness community.

What to Expect in a Chair Yoga Class

When you come to Chair Yoga, you do not need to know yoga poses. You do not need to be flexible or feel confident yet.

You simply need to show up.

The class may include seated movements, standing movements with chair support, breathing exercises, posture work, mobility movements, balance practice, and gentle strengthening.

You can expect clear instruction and options for different levels. If something feels too challenging, we can regress it. If your body is ready for more, we can progress it.

That is the beauty of Chair Yoga. It meets you where you are.

Seated Mountain Pose

Person sitting tall in a chair with feet grounded while practicing seated mountain pose in a Chair Yoga class.

A seated mountain pose is often a great starting point. In this position, you sit tall in the chair with your feet grounded, spine long, shoulders relaxed, and breath steady.

This pose helps build posture awareness and creates a strong foundation for the rest of class.

Seated Side Stretch

Person seated in a chair reaching one arm overhead for a gentle side stretch during Chair Yoga.

A seated side stretch can help lengthen the sides of the body, open the ribs, and encourage deeper breathing.

This movement is simple, but it can feel very effective for people who sit often or feel tight through the waist, back, or shoulders.

Chair-Supported Warrior Pose

A chair-supported warrior pose can help build strength, balance, and stability. The chair provides support while participants practice standing with more confidence.

This is a great example of how Chair Yoga can be progressed for those who are ready for more standing work.

Seated Forward Fold

Person seated in a chair practicing a gentle forward fold during an accessible Chair Yoga class.

A seated forward fold may help release tension through the back, hips, and hamstrings. In Chair Yoga, this movement can be modified based on each person’s comfort level.

Some participants may fold only slightly. Others may rest more deeply. Both options are valid.

Chair-Supported Balance Practice

Balance work can be practiced safely with the chair nearby. Participants may hold the chair lightly while shifting weight, lifting heels, or practicing controlled leg movements.

This helps improve confidence, coordination, and stability.

In Person in Sheridan and Accessible Online

Our Chair Yoga in Sheridan class is held in person at the PHiiTWERx Sheridan location. This gives members the opportunity to enjoy the energy, guidance, and support of a live class.

However, we also know that not everyone can attend in person every time. That is why this class is also accessible online.

Online access makes it easier to stay consistent when your schedule is full, travel is difficult, or you simply prefer to move from home. With Myzone, you can still track your progress and feel connected to the class.

Membership Options for Chair Yoga and More

If you are ready to make real changes, consistency matters. Your body needs time to adapt, strengthen, and show progress. That is why we often recommend giving yourself a full year to build the habit and experience the benefits.

Our Annual All Access Pass is $55/month and gives you unlimited access to all classes. This can be a great option if you are ready to commit to your health and make PHiiTWERx part of your routine.

You can explore membership options on our PHiiTWERx Memberships page.

Not ready to commit yet? That is okay. We also offer 1-day, 3-day, and 7-day passes so you can try the gym and classes before choosing a longer membership.

We also offer month-to-month memberships. These include a sign-up cost, but they give you more flexibility if you are not ready for an annual commitment.

Please note that annual passes auto-renew. If you do not wish to continue after one year, we recommend marking your calendar with a reminder to cancel the renewal at least 30 days in advance. This helps you avoid an unwanted renewal and gives you time to make the best decision for your next year of fitness.

To compare options, visit our membership page. If you are unsure which option is right for you, contact PHiiTWERx and we will be happy to help.

Chair Yoga Removes the Stigma From Yoga

Many people think yoga has to look a certain way. They picture difficult poses, floor work, extreme flexibility, or a quiet room where everyone already knows what they are doing.

Chair Yoga changes that.

It reminds us that yoga is not about performance. It is not about how flexible you are. It is not about doing the most advanced version of a pose.

Yoga is breath connected to movement.

That means yoga can happen in a chair. It can happen standing with support. It can happen online. It can happen slowly. It can happen with modifications. It can happen at your pace.

Chair Yoga gives more people access to the benefits of yoga without the pressure.
